About This Track

Released in April 2014 as the second single from sessions that would eventually yield 'The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty', 'Hookah' pairs Tyga with Young Thug over production from London on da Track. The track was ultimately excluded from the final album tracklist, but found a commercial afterlife on streaming platforms.

The song builds its atmosphere around a looped refrain and verses that catalogue luxury signifiers with the casual insistence of someone showing receipts. Young Thug opens with a verse that moves from Chanel accessories to courtroom exits to panoramic car roofs, the imagery piling up without pause. Tyga's contribution leans into the same register of material excess, invoking Aladdin's magic carpet as a come-on and framing the hookah itself as social currency. The production stays minimal, giving the two rappers room to trade lines about money, women, and intoxicants in a tone that splits the difference between boast and invitation.
