Light Work

[Verse 1]

I know people up in high places but I don't use them because I am the boss

Me and my engineer work hard, always looking wins 'cause we know the loss

When I go to buy something these days, I don't ask 'cause I know the cost

If you spend your career watching everybody else, that's the reason you won't be top

In my genre I'm the Godfather like James Brown was the God of soul

I remember in 05, was the king of grime, I was on a role

2017, new day here, still my skill can shine through

When you're doing tings well out here bro, nobody likes you

My name's Wiley, I'm full of style

See I said it before when I was a kid

People thought I was washed out, but newcomers can't watch the kid

I got a son that's gonna do this ting

Before he was born, he had music in him

Teach him Logic, I'll teach him Pro Tools

I'll teach him how to spit bars on riddims

[Chorus]

That's lightwork

Yo son, here's how the mic works

Control your breathing

Pick up the mic and say what you believe in

Yo son, here's how the Mac works

Software, instruments, and audio trackwork

Draw for the keyboard, USB

Now go and do better than me

[Verse 2]

The music game's not a perfect job, but if you've got a brain you can find a way

From my mistakes, I can steer you right

But when you're on the right, that's where you have to stay

Big up Skepta, he's flying the flag

He's paving a way for a better day

Where I grew up, it was cool and that

But I moved the family to a better place

I work every hour God gives to me

Over years I've made history

Had loads of shows that I had to do

When you was born, I hope you're not pissed for me

When I'm free, we're rolling deep

I'm playing songs and you're listening

Sitting here, I wanna put that melody down I was just been whistling

You're my sonny, and I'm your dad

I got bars for days, and I hope you have too

I don't wanna hear you're out there with bredrins, 'bout 2 in a Q

All the pace has been set to you to step into this and be something new

I won't leave you outside in the cold

I will stand here and show you what to do

[Chorus]

'Cause that's lightwork

Yo son, here's how the mic works

Control your breathing

Pick up the mic and say what you believe in

Yo son, here's how the Mac works

Software, instruments, and audio trackwork

Draw for the keyboard, USB

Now go and do better than me
