Will Smith's debut solo single samples the Whispers' 1979 track 'And the Beat Goes On', building a sun-soaked tribute to South Florida nightlife over its looping groove. Released in November 1998 from 'Big Willie Style', the song reached number seventeen on the Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the UK charts, later winning an MTV VMA for Best Male Video. Smith raps through a checklist of the city's appeal, the beach parties, the multilingual crowds, the high-end clubs, with the easy charm of a tourism ambassador who happens to drive a drop-top Bentley. The verses name-check neighbourhoods and nod to other American cities before circling back to Miami's supremacy, whilst the bilingual hook anchors the track's crossover ambitions. The production stays light, the tone celebratory, the whole enterprise pitched somewhere between travelogue and victory lap.
"Miami" is a single by Will Smith, from the album Big Willie Style, released 24th November 1997. The track is 3:18 long. It's filed under Hip-Hop/Rap. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 2 articles about Will Smith.
