A Certain Ratio (ACR) is an English post-punk band formed in Greater Manchester in 1977. The original lineup included Peter Terrell (guitar), Simon Topping (vocals, trumpet), Jez Kerr (bass guitar, vocals), Martin Moscrop (trumpet, guitar), and Donald Johnson (drums), with Martha Tilson (vocals) joining shortly after. The band was among the first indie groups to incorporate influences from funk, disco, and Latin percussion. They debuted on Tony Wilson's Factory Records in 1979 with the single 'All Night Party,' produced by Martin Hannett. During their early years with Factory, ACR achieved seven Top Ten UK independent releases, including 'Flight' and 'Waterline,' and released five studio albums, beginning with The Graveyard and the Ballroom in 1980. After their initial period with Factory, the band was intermittently active during the late 1980s and early 1990s, releasing material through A&M Records and Robs Records. They returned to the studio for their ninth album, Mind Made Up, in 2008, and have continued to perform since then. Their back catalogue has been reissued through an arrangement with Mute Records.
