Albert Hammond Jr. (born April 9, 1980) is an American musician and a member of the rock band the Strokes. He is primarily a rhythm and lead guitarist, and has also played keyboards and provided backing vocals for the band. Hammond has released five solo albums. He was born in Los Angeles, California, to a father of British-Gibraltarian descent and a mother of Argentine descent. He attended a Swiss boarding school alongside Julian Casablancas, with whom he became friends. In 1998, Hammond moved to New York City and studied at New York University for a year and a half. Casablancas invited Hammond to join the Strokes in 1999, making him the last member to join the band. He contributes mainly rhythm guitar and has songwriting credits on some instrumental tracks. Hammond is known for his interest in fashion, often wearing a three-piece suit on tour, and Casablancas has credited him with influencing the band's style. In 2009, Hammond released a line of men's suits.
