Fickle Friends are an English indie rock band from Brighton, East Sussex. The band was formed in 2013 and consists of Natassja Shiner (vocals, keyboard), Harry Herrington (bass, backing vocals), Sam Morris (drums), and Jack Wilson (keyboards). Natassja Shiner met Sam Morris at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, and in the following year, she met Harry Herrington, Jack Wilson, and former member Chris at BIMM Brighton. The band toured the UK and Europe for two years without a label or publisher, playing 53 festivals during that period. They signed to Polydor Records and recorded their debut album in Los Angeles with producer Mike Crossey. The album, titled You Are Someone Else, was released on 16 March 2018 during a UK promotional tour and entered the UK Albums Chart at number nine.

Some bands just seem ready. That Fickle Friends' Reading set starts with a technical mishap means little when it's followed by a performance so pitch perfect it puts most headline level acts to shame. 'Brooklyn' and 'Hello Hello' have already proved themselves as grade A bangers, but it's a trait that runs through every track. New EP cut 'Vanilla' skips and slides in equal measure, 'Cry Baby' sets off fireworks, while 'Glue' prefers to drop sonic bombs from ever increasing heights. By releasing regular one-off singles that fizz on impact, Fickle Friends have built up a stockpile of thermonuclear alt-pop. Today, they're using the lot. As 'Swim' drips with icy cool, there's a palpable feeling that Fickle Friends' time is finally approaching. As the zeitgeist starts to turn in their direction, it's doubtful it'll ever catch up - they're far too smart to let that happen - but it's certainly catching on. It’s party time as the band gear up to headline Heaven in London on Thursday (December 1st)

Getting things off to a spirited start on the NME stage, Fickle Friends arrive in a flurry of unabashed excitement. Bounding about the stage to their bubbling pop riffs, their charm is effortless. Diving straight into the breezy melodies of ‘Say No More’, the band relish in the moment they’re in. And it’s an exciting moment to be in: with a debut album in the works, the group are powering forwards to pastures new, a taste of which they offer here. “We've never played this before,” Natti Shiner introduces of a new track. “Let's try and enjoy it without freaking out.” Apologising to the broadcasters for the profanity it contains (“We're badasses, right?”) Fickle Friends demonstrate just how much they’re capable of. Inciting just as much energy as with favoured numbers like ‘Cry Baby’, the path they’re on seems only set to skyrocket. But all that could be a million miles away, for the only thing that matters is what’s happening right now. "Who just finished their GCSEs?” Natti questions the crowd. “This is the weekend away from the parents, this is the dream." And there’s every sense that the people present are living the dream. Escaping into a sunlight field, real life is almost on hold – and there’s nowhere else anyone would rather be.
"It’s a pretty exciting time for us," says Natti.
A veritable banger factory, Fickle Friends are gearing up fast.
Banger probably doesn't even come close. This is the toad in the hole of perfect summer pop.
Taken from one of them fancy studio sessions, it just shows they’re bloody great.
