King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is an Australian rock band formed in 2010 in Melbourne, Victoria. The band’s lineup includes Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny-Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Harwood, and Michael Cavanagh. They are recognized for exploring multiple genres, staging energetic live performances, and producing a large discography. Their early releases combined surf music and garage rock and were issued on their label, Flightless. In the early 2010s, they released several psychedelic rock albums and later incorporated a broader range of styles, such as jazz fusion on Quarters! and folk influences on Paper Mâché Dream Balloon. In 2016, they gained increased mainstream attention with Nonagon Infinity, which won the ARIA Award for Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album. The band is noted for their prolific output; in 2017, they released five studio albums within a single year and began a trilogy of microtonal albums with Flying Microtonal Banana.
