The Doors were an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1965. The group consisted of vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore. They released six studio albums over five years, including their debut 'The Doors' (1967), 'Strange Days' (1967), 'Morrison Hotel' (1970), and 'L.A. Woman' (1971). The band was known for Morrison's lyrics and vocal style, as well as his stage persona and legal issues. Their name was derived from Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception, referencing a quote by William Blake. They signed with Elektra Records in 1966 and became one of the most successful bands of the era, with over 4 million albums and nearly 8 million singles sold domestically by 1972. The Doors are often associated with the 1960s counterculture. Jim Morrison died in 1971 under uncertain circumstances.
