

Tool is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1990. The group includes vocalist Maynard James Keenan, guitarist Adam Jones, drummer Danny Carey, and bassist Justin Chancellor, who replaced founding member Paul D'Amour in 1995. The band has won four Grammy Awards and has released five studio albums, one EP, and one box set. Their debut album, Undertow (1993), featured a heavy metal sound, and they became prominent within the alternative metal movement with Ænima (1996). Subsequent albums, Lateralus (2001) and 10,000 Days (2006), received critical acclaim and achieved international commercial success. Their fifth studio album, Fear Inoculum, was released in 2019. Prior to its release, the band had sold over 13 million albums in the United States. Tool is known for integrating visual arts and complex, lengthy releases, and has been associated with genres including progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock.
