Yoasobi is a Japanese musical duo formed in 2019, comprising songwriter and producer Ayase and vocalist Ikura. The group operates under the slogan "novel into music," creating songs based on fictional stories posted on Monogatary.com, as well as works by professional authors, books, letters, messages, plays, and social media posts. Their music is characterized by a fast pace and complex structure, blending elements of J-pop and Vocaloid music. Yoasobi gained prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. Their debut single, 'Yoru ni Kakeru,' spent six non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Japan Hot 100 and topped the 2020 year-end chart. It was the first non-CD single to achieve this position and received the first diamond and double diamond streaming certifications from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). Three other songs—'Gunjō,' inspired by Blue Period, and anime series openers 'Kaibutsu' for Beastars and 'Idol' for Oshi no Ko—also received diamond certifications. 'Idol' set the record for the longest-running number one on the Japan Hot 100 with 22 non-consecutive weeks and became the first Japanese act to top the Billboard Global Excl. chart.
