Brooke Combe visits where she grew up with her new video for 'This Town'

A day in the life of… Brooke Combe

This month, we nab Brooke Combe to spy on 24 hours in her life.

Artists: Brooke Combe

You know what’s easier than following around your fave pop stars, day in, day out, to see what they’re up to right that minute? Asking them. This month, we nab Brooke Combe.

9:15am Wake up and have a cup of tea with a teaspoon of honey. Between 9:15 and 10:00 AM, I’m getting organised to head to the studio and meet Chris [Taylor, Engineer]. He usually tells me to be there by 11am. I’m normally punctual, but for some reason, I’m always running a bit late when it comes to the studio.

11:15am Arrive at the studio with Danny [Murphy, Guitarist] and have another brew before we get started.

12:00pm We work on acoustic arrangements for ‘This Town’, ‘The Last Time’, ‘Pieces’, and ‘Dancing at the Edge of the World’.

1:30pm Break for lunch. I grab a butty – my go-to is cheese, ham, tomato, and lettuce.

5:00pm After laying down the majority of the songs, I add some harmonies. We’ve been avoiding tracking vocals too tightly to keep the sound live and not overproduced, so we’re approaching the acoustic versions in the same way.

7:00pm Playback time. After hearing the acoustic arrangements back and feeling satisfied, we discuss plans for tomorrow. We’re thinking of tackling some of my favourite soul covers, like Angie Stone or Lauryn Hill. Might even throw in a Sam Fender cover.

8:00pm Wrap up in the studio for the day. Head out to grab some Lebanese food at Fattoush after a long day’s work.

Taken from the September 2024 issue of Dork. Brooke Combe’s debut album ‘Dancing At The Edge Of The World’ is out 31st January.
