10:00am → Wake up and stay in bed cause it’s cold and our heating sucks, discuss our dreams from the night before if we remember them. Sam had a dream he was climbing up a very tall wall. I don't remember mine, unfortunately.
10:45am → Make a belter of a coffee, and an iced one for Emma.
11:00am → Have our weekly meeting with our managers. Today, John wore a Vivienne Westwood shirt and tried to convince us that Bob Dylan invented Post-it notes. We also discussed important things like our single that just came out and our next EP 'Us Forever'.
11:40am → Start making food (usually we accidentally fast till 12). Today we’re making bacon bagels and eggs with hot sauce (Valentinas iykyk). Sam does a little dance when the food is ready. After eating, I'll make a list of to-dos for the day and probably worry about something.
1:00pm → Record videos for socials. We usually go somewhere outside, but lately we’ve been finding some cool liminal spaces like the Odeon cinema near us that is stuck in the early 2000s; we love her.
2:00pm → Edit videos. We’ve been getting into stop motion and slo-mo videos. Emma does the stop-motion, while Sam does the glitchy, fast-paced editing. We have different styles that complement each other quite well. Also, we’ll make lunch at some point in this time period.
5:00pm → Record some demos. Our writing process hasn't really changed since we started working together. Either Sam has a beat that he's made ahead of time, or we start from scratch with a reference (always referencing Yung Lean, even though none of our tracks sound like him). Most of the time, I’ll write lyrics on the spot, but if I'm having some good old writer's block, I just go through my notes app and hope to find some gold I forgot about. Every time we record demo vocals, we always say we're gonna change them, but honestly, sometimes the demo vocal is the most natural and correct-sounding take for a song. Like your first instinct. Of course, some takes are just bad, so we redo those.
7:00pm → We finish our recording/writing after 2-3 hours, and then we’ll usually just meet with friends at theirs and watch a film or play Monopoly. We also love doing the Bunny Jacksons to Dogtown pipeline (Northern Quarter). We love chicken wings and tequila and cheap beer, so if that's something the reader likes as well, you know where to go, my friend.
9:00pm → Sam does work on the computer for a few hours, and I watch a film or TV show. Right now, I’m watching season 10 of Love is Blind and I just wanna say Chris is the embodiment of our song 'HE’S SO GROSS'. The two of us recently watched Free Solo and now we’re obsessed with Alex Honnold.P
Taken from the April 2026 issue of Dork. samxemma's new EP 'Us Forever' is out now.
