It’s been four long years since Hull-based noiseniks and Dork faves LIFE released an album. It’s been nearly five years since the last episode of the seminal, genre-defying Dork podcast Mez’s Sunday Lunch (No, nobody else remembers that?! – Ed). They’ve not just been sitting around and admiring the Humber since then; it’s just that with all of the band working full-time jobs alongside making music, these things take a while.
They probably take even longer when you want to record your fourth album in an entire studio you built yourself, but then LIFE have never been ones to break with their DIY spirit just to speed things along. “We thought we’d leave people wanting more and build some anticipation, but then when we came back, we realised nobody had really noticed!” says drummer Stew Baxter with a laugh. “No, we were just busy writing, really. Plus, we made the entire thing ourselves. We self-produced it, built our own studio by getting the community involved and did it from scratch with no money, no nothing. That’s a big achievement as far as we’re concerned.”
