
Rakim Athelston Mayers, born October 3, 1988, is an American rapper, record producer, actor, fashion designer, and model. He was born and raised in Harlem and began his musical career as a member of the hip hop collective ASAP Mob, from which he adopted his stage name. In August 2011, his single "Peso" was leaked online and received radio airplay, bringing attention to cloud rap. He signed with Polo Grounds Music, an imprint of RCA Records, in October 2011, and released his debut mixtape, Live. Love. A$AP, which received critical acclaim. His 2012 single "Fuckin' Problems," featuring Drake, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar, reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and was nominated for Best Rap Song at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. This preceded his debut studio album, Long. Live. A$AP, released in 2013, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified double platinum by the RIAA. His second album, At. Long. Last. A$AP, also achieved commercial success.
