Evanescence is an American rock band formed in 1994 in Little Rock, Arkansas, by singer and keyboardist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. The band released independent EPs and a demo CD in the late 1990s before their debut studio album, Fallen, was released in 2003 on Wind-up Records. The album included hit singles such as 'Bring Me to Life' and 'My Immortal' and sold over four million copies in the United States by January 2004. Fallen earned the band two Grammy Awards from six nominations. In 2004, they released their first live album and concert DVD, Anywhere but Home, which sold over one million copies worldwide. Their second studio album, The Open Door, was released in 2006 and was co-composed by Amy Lee and guitarist Terry Balsamo; it received a Grammy nomination and sold more than six million copies globally. The band reconvened in 2009 with Balsamo, guitarist Troy McLawhorn, bassist Tim McCord, and drummer Will Hunt to work on their next album, Evanescence, released in 2011. This album was the first co-written as a band and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, as well as on the Rock Albums, Digital Albums, Alternative Albums, and Hard Rock Albums charts.
