
Kneecap is an Irish hip-hop trio from Belfast, Northern Ireland, consisting of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí, whose real names are Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, Naoise Ó Cairealláin, and J. J. Ó Dochartaigh, respectively. They perform rap in a mixture of English and Irish. Their debut single, 'C.E.A.R.T.A.', was released in 2017, followed by their first studio album, '3CAG', in 2018. Their second album, 'Fine Art', was released in 2024, the same year a biographical film about the group was also released. In January 2026, they announced their third studio album, 'Fenian', scheduled for release the following April. The group has been involved in public debates concerning free speech and political expression in Ireland and the UK. Their lyrical themes include working-class Belfast youth culture, Irish republicanism, and Irish language rights. During live performances, they have expressed support for Palestinian nationalism and condemned the Gaza genocide. The name Kneecap is derived from extralegal punishment attacks carried out by Northern Irish paramilitary groups.
