
Marina Lambrini Diamandis, born on 10 October 1985, is a Welsh singer, songwriter, poet, and record producer. She was born in Brynmawr and raised near Abergavenny before moving to London to pursue a career in music. Despite limited formal musical training, she gained recognition in 2009 after finishing second in the BBC's Sound of 2010. Her debut album, The Family Jewels (2010), featured indie pop and new wave styles, reached number five on the UK Albums Chart, and was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry. The album's second single, "Hollywood," reached number 12 on the UK singles chart. Her second studio album, Electra Heart (2012), was a concept album centered around a character of the same name. It incorporated electropop and dance-pop genres and became her first number one album in the United Kingdom. The album was certified gold in both the US and UK and produced singles such as "Primadonna" and "How to Be a Heartbreaker." She has performed under the mononym Marina, often stylized in all caps, and was previously known by the stage name Marina and the Diamonds.
