Nine Inch Nails, abbreviated as NIN, is an American industrial rock band formed by Trent Reznor in 1988 in Cleveland, Ohio. Reznor was the band's sole permanent member until 2016, when English musician Atticus Ross became an official member. The band released its debut album, Pretty Hate Machine, in 1989 through TVT Records. After disagreements with TVT over promotion, Nine Inch Nails signed with Interscope Records and released the EP Broken in 1992, followed by the albums The Downward Spiral in 1994 and The Fragile in 1999. The band took a hiatus before resuming touring and releasing With Teeth in 2005. Their subsequent album, Year Zero, was released in 2007, after which they left Interscope following a feud. Nine Inch Nails continued touring and independently released Ghosts I–IV and The Slip in 2008 before another hiatus. Their eighth album, Hesitation Marks, was released in 2013. The band then released a trilogy comprising the EPs Not the Actual Events and Add Violence in 2016 and 2017, respectively, and the album Bad Witch in 2018.
