Abel Tesfaye, known professionally as the Weeknd, is a Canadian singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor born on February 16, 1990. He is recognized for his light-lyric tenor vocal range and falsetto, as well as his alternative R&B sound and cinematic visuals in his music videos. Tesfaye began releasing music anonymously in 2009 and co-founded the record label XO. In 2011, he released three mixtapes: House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence. These were later compiled into the album Trilogy (2012). His debut studio album, Kiss Land, was released in 2013. Between 2013 and 2014, he contributed to film soundtracks and collaborated with other artists. His second and third studio albums, Beauty Behind the Madness (2015) and Starboy (2016), combined alternative R&B with pop elements and debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. Both albums featured chart-topping singles such as "Can't Feel My Face," "The Hills," "Starboy," and "Die for You." Tesfaye has received multiple awards, including four Grammy Awards, twenty Billboard Music Awards, twenty-two Juno Awards, six American Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, and a Latin Grammy Award.
