So "Blood Moon" is a song that I wrote in the summer of 2021 with my buddy Brian Stanley over a Zoom call, and I was bartending at the time, and to be honest with y'all, I was not taking very good care of myself. It was the middle of the summer, I would, uh, ride my bike over to the bar, I would work my shift, and then I would just kinda vanish into East Nashville, into the bars—there's like circuit of bars in East Nashville that you can start on, that you can kind of ... It almost never ends. And so I would just disappear for days, into this loop of bars in East Nashville until my next shift was. But Brian finally wrangled me in, and he said, "Let's write a song, you know—I know you're struggling a little bit, let's write a song about what you're going through." And there had just been this incredible blood moon for like days in a row that just hung low over Nashville, and I just wanted to write about this moment in my life. This one also took me quite a few tries to record, I think the final version is labeled, like, "Blood Moon 14" or "Blood Moon 15". So, at the time, I was pulling my hair out, but I think we got it down to its best form. This is "Blood Moon".
