It was six years ago that Taylor Swift released her "Red" album, and I had a chance to talk to her back then when she released the album on October 22nd, 2012, and i wondered: "what was her thought process going into making this album?"
[Spoken: Taylor Swift]
Well, for this album, "Red", I'm 22 years old going into my 4th album, so making this record I really knew that I wanted to step out of my comfort zone. I wanted to make a record that was different from my last 3, and uhm, that's pretty much what we end up with on "Red"

And I know one of the ways that Taylor Swift changed things up when shе was making "Red" was that she worked with othеr people. She wrote her entire "Speak Now" album by herself, but for "Red", she brought in some interesting people from all walks of music, and so I wondered for Taylor "who did she turn to first when she decided she wanted to work with other people?"
[Spoken: Taylor Swift]
The first person that I turned to write songs and work on productions was, I went in the studio with Max Martin and Shellback, and these are two guys who have such amazing melody sense, and they're writers I have wanted to work with for a really long time, I always admired what they do, so going in the studio with them I had, of course, all of these ideas that I hadbrought in, because I didn't want to show up unprepared, and so we just got to work, and we wrote fast, and we wrote a lot of songs, and we wrote songs that I was so excited about, because they're so different from the way that they would've gone if I hadn't called Max and said "Hey, let's work together"

I know one of the three song that Taylor created with Max and Shellback was the first single that she released of "Red", it's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together", as we celebrate the six year anniversary of "Red" here on Big Machine Radio
