I've been makin' up songs since I was 19 years old
My first song was about money
I hated it, when I was 19 years old
Thought it tore my family apart
My next song was about being a bus boy
'Cause I was a bus boy
And that sent me down to an open mic
My friend said, "Go sing at an open mic"
And when I got to the open mic
I realized I think that this is what I wanted to do
I didn't know that I could but I knew
That I just wanted to chase songs around
And if, if I could find a way to pull it of
And get away with it
I would be enterally grateful you know
More, I feel more now than ever lucky to be travellin' around
I went on tour '94 and we didn't stop 'til the pandemic
This is my second tour, I'm on right now
And I nevеr stop gettin' into chasing songs around
And there's onе song I never could let go of
I was at 22 years old when this girl
That I'm still friends with but she broke up with me
And in music, that means you're homeless
And as I was driving away
I decided to change towns completely
So I packed up and I drove to Memphis
And on my way where there
I was thinking of this song called
"Where Will I Go Now That I'm Gone"
And I never finished it but I figured I would someday
And I never gave up on it either
And I kept workin' on it for years
Then right up until 'bout three or four years ago
This magic night in the hotel
I just pulled my guitar out
And I was strumming a little bit
And I thought you know
My motto has always been, "When in doubt, give up"
So, right, that works, it's always worked for me
So I said, "Why am I chasin' this song like this?"
And then, as soon as I had that thought
I got an idea for the song I'm gonna play you now
Um, I never did finish that other one
I don't know if I will
But this song is about that song that I was just telling you
