Against The Current have shared a new single called ‘Dead Man Walking’, the latest preview of their forthcoming album.
The track follows March’s ‘Heavenly’ and arrives as the trio prepare to celebrate their 15th anniversary with new music and a global tour later this year.
Built around huge riffs and emotionally raw vocals from frontwoman Chrissy Costanza, ‘Dead Man Walking’ explores the psychological aftermath of survival and the feeling of no longer recognising yourself.
“‘Dead Man Walking’ is about how the cost of survival was the person you used to be,” the band explain. “It explores the return home from war only to find that, although everything looks the same, you yourself are so deeply different that you no longer fit.”
“There’s a stranger staring back at you in the mirror, the ghost of someone you once were,” they continue. “Everyone thinks you’re fine because you made it out alive, but they don’t realize you never really did.”
Formed in 2011 by Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow and Will Ferri, Against The Current are entering what they describe as a defining new chapter following a recent run of independent releases including ‘silent stranger’, ‘blindfolded’ and ‘good guy’.
The band are also set to head out on their biggest UK and European tour to date later this year.
The Liverpool songwriter extends her debut album universe with a four-track collection of murder ballads.
