Isaac Holman has unveiled the third album under his
Baby Dave alias, with
'Billy' available to stream now.
A solo outlet for the
SOFT PLAY frontman, Baby Dave takes in bedroom rap, piano ballads, whimsical country and lo-fi acoustic moments, held together by dark humour and candid vulnerability.
Of the project's origins, Holman says, "I started Baby Dave in lockdown whilst in the throes of a mental breakdown. I was living with my parents and working as a gardener. I needed a creative outlet. I find writing for this project deeply therapeutic — I need to do it for my mental wellbeing."On recent single
'am i clean???', he adds, "I have pretty severe ocd. It makes me do things I don't want to do and think about things I don't want to think about. It's torturous. It's exhausting. At times it's hilarious. It makes absolutely no sense. This is a song is about ocd and the video portrays the illogical compulsions that come with it. The fucked up wizard is ocd making people do things against their will."Baby Dave first emerged during a difficult chapter for Holman, when SOFT PLAY were on hiatus, lockdown was in force and he had returned to his parents' home while working as a gardener. What began as therapy grew into a fully-fledged project. Holman has since reunited with Laurie Vincent in SOFT PLAY for 2024's 'HEAVY JELLY', alongside live dates with Kneecap and Robbie Williams and festival sets at
Glastonbury,
Coachella and
Download.
