Björk has opened a major new exhibition at the National Gallery of Iceland in Reykjavík.
Running until 20th September, the exhibition brings together three large-scale audiovisual installations, including new versions of ‘Ancestress’ and ‘Sorrowful Soil’, two works originally released during the ‘Fossora’ era and written in memory of the artist's mother.
‘Ancestress’ has been reimagined as a cinematic installation set within an Icelandic landscape, while ‘Sorrowful Soil’ takes the form of an immersive choral sound work featuring the Hamrahlíð Choir. Visitors will also be able to experience a newly commissioned installation developed from material connected to Björk's forthcoming musical work, offering an early glimpse of her next creative chapter.
Alongside the exhibition, Björk will present ‘Echolalia’, a one-day solar eclipse event taking place on 12th August in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland. The line-up includes performances from Arca, Sideproject and Ronja, alongside a DJ set from Björk herself.
The exhibition opened at the National Gallery of Iceland on 30th May and is now open to the public.
