Kelela confronts emotional labour on her new single ‘point blank’
Producer Oscar Scheller helms the third cut lifted from forthcoming third album.
Kelela has shared new single ‘point blank’ and announced her first multinational tour in years.
The track is the latest preview of her forthcoming album ‘new avatar’, which arrives on 10th July via Warp Records, following previous singles ‘idea 1’ and ‘linknb’.
Produced by Oscar Scheller, ‘point blank’ explores the emotional labour often expected of women in relationships. “I first outline the baseline dynamic, which is that we're expected to endure men's inability to self-regulate,” Kelela explains. “The fantasy many of us are invested in is one where we do such a good job of holding space that it starts to rub off on our partner over time.”
She adds: “Yet the more we pour into men, the more entitled they become. We are down bad.”
Alongside the new single, Kelela has announced the ‘new avatar live’ world tour, which will take her across North America, Europe and the UK this autumn. The run includes a London show at O2 Academy Brixton on 4th November.
