CHVRCHES have made their live return, performing for the first time since 2023 at a special event celebrating the launch of video game Death Stranding 2: On The Beach at London’s Here at Outernet.

The band appeared as surprise musical guests at the event, performing ‘Death Stranding’, their contribution to the original game’s soundtrack. The performance followed a set from Caroline Polachek, who has written and performed the lead song for the new title.

Following their performance, CHVRCHES joined game creator Hideo Kojima and host Geoff Keighley for a conversation, during which they confirmed a new album is currently in development.

The band have also revealed their appearance as characters within Death Stranding 2: On The Beach itself. Taking to Instagram, Lauren Mayberry shared details of their involvement, saying: “Hello from us in Death Stranding 2. A real honour and a secret we had to keep for a long time. Thank you as ever Hideo Kojima.” The band appear as NPCs (non-player characters) working for the We Love Animals organisation within the game.

Prior to their performance, Keighley told the audience: “This is something really special. This band was last on stage together two years ago and tonight they wanted to be here to perform a song that is very important to all of us that love Death Stranding.”
