Heartworms is set to release a deluxe edition of debut album ‘Glutton For Punishment’ on 19th September via Speedy Wunderground, titled ‘Glutton For Punishment (The Poetry Edition)’, alongside a new video for album track ‘Celebrate’. The South London artist has also confirmed two UK winter headline shows in Manchester and London.
The ‘Celebrate’ video introduces a choreographed element to the project, led by Liv Lockwood (Gucci, The 1975, Wet Leg, Aurora). Discussing the collaboration, Lockwood says, “Jojo is fearless, honest and incredibly generous with her fervor and trust,” adding, “It was both organic and very cathartic in process, especially because we had been researching and working on movement and choreography for her live performances months before. It felt incredibly fulfilling to work on a video together; a natural progression and an opportunity to dig into the groundwork and pull out more moments.”
Recorded with longtime collaborator Dan Carey, ‘Glutton For Punishment (The Poetry Edition)’ folds the spoken-word piece ‘Beat Poem’ from Heartworms’ live set into the record, alongside reimagined versions and remixes.
Heartworms explains, “Long before we went into the studio to record this album, I handmade Dan Carey a poetry book containing the lyrics to the songs. I wanted him to have an idea of where the album would take us. These stripped back versions on the Poetry Edition are an homage to those early stages of creation. ‘Beat Poem’ was something that was born from and became potent in my live performances on the album tour. Bringing the idea back into Dan’s studio, I knew he would help me transform it into more than words being read over a beat. It doesn’t just ask you to listen now – it grabs you by the collar and screams.”
