Ice Spice addresses shortened Brisbane set: ‘It takes time to look like Barbie’

The star managed two songs before being cut off after arriving late for her stage time.

Ice Spice has apologised for her controversial performance at Brisbane’s Wildlands Festival, where she arrived 30 minutes late and performed just two songs before having her microphone cut.

The New York rapper’s set at the New Year’s Eve event was scheduled for 10:30pm, but she did not appear until 10:55pm. Due to the festival’s strict scheduling requirements, Ice Spice only managed to perform ‘Deli’ and ‘Princess Diana’ before her microphone was cut during ‘In Ha Mood’ at 11:01pm.

Festival organisers later addressed the situation via Instagram, stating: “We understand that Ice Spice’s delayed arrival caused some disappointment. Managing a stacked festival means that we have to be extremely firm with set times. We had a strict curfew of 12:30 and need to ensure that the final act went on stage on time, so everyone could enjoy the New Year’s Eve countdown.”

During her performance at the Perth leg of Wildlands Festival, Ice Spice addressed the incident, saying: “I’m sorry guys, surely y’all can forgive me. It was my birthday and it takes a long time to look like a Barbie.”

The rapper concluded her current touring schedule with a performance at Adelaide’s Wildlands Festival, marking the end of her global tour in support of her debut album ‘Y2K!’.
