Kate Nash has debuted her first new single in over a year, ‘Misery’

She’s kicking off a special tour today (21st May), too.

Artists: Kate Nash

Kate Nash has returned with her first new single in over a year.

Titled ‘Misery’, it’s her first offering since 2019’s ‘Bad Lieutenant’.

She explains: “I definitely went through depression. For the most part of the year, I just didn’t have the energy and I was kind of lethargic and very lacklustre. Rather than fighting that, I leaned into it. It’s about the trauma: the trauma of everything changing.”

The new song comes alongside news of a new tour – safely out of the bedroom – which will see Kate playing one-off shows in senic locations across the US.

“I feel like there was a live streaming diarrhoea that was happening at the beginning of quarantine where everyone was producing content like crazy from their living rooms,” she says. “My living room is a home, it’s not a set. There’s only so much I can do to make it look good. There’s something charming about it, for sure, but as a performer, I was thinking, ‘What can I do that would make this more interesting for my audience?’ We’ve been in people’s intimate spaces, and I’m gonna go safely out of there.”

The run kicks off later today (21st May) at California’s Sequoia National Forest. Streaming starts from 7pm BST. As well as songs from her back catalogue, the tour will see Nash play one new song at each location. Oooo, etc.

Until then, you can check out Misery below.
