Mallrat has dropped her new album 'Light hit my face like a straight right'
The album follows her 2022 debut 'Butterfly Blue' and features collaborations with Chrome Sparks, Alice Ivy, Buddy Ross, Kito, and APOB.

Mallrat has released her new album 'Light hit my face like a straight right' via Dew Process / Universal Music Australia.
The ARIA Platinum singer, songwriter, and producer's latest work explores themes of human connection and magical realism, drawing from her experiences growing up in Brisbane. The album follows her 2022 debut 'Butterfly Blue' and features collaborations with Chrome Sparks, Alice Ivy, Buddy Ross, Kito, and APOB.
"I love the idea you can let your fate be decided by rays of light," Shaw shares. "There's something holy about those moments, you know, like the angelic choir in cartoons or whatever. It's the unexpectedness of it, the suddenness."
The album includes previously released singles 'Pavement', 'Horses', 'Ray of Light', and 'Hocus Pocus', alongside new tracks that showcase Shaw's evolution from dream pop to electronic territories. Speaking about the track 'Something For Somebody', Shaw notes, "I love disguising disturbed stories and messages in really sweet melodies and I think I did that in a really clever way here."

Discussing 'Defibrillator', she explains, "I wasn't sure that I wanted to put it on the album because it felt more emo than I usually allow myself to be. Styalz and I sometimes talk about pushing interesting moments in a song to the point of being almost uncomfortable for the listener, and that's a reason why the final chorus is a cappella for as long as it is."
