Sugababes have dropped their new, old album, ‘The Lost Tapes’.
On Instagram, Sugababes explain: “This has been a year of incredibly positive moments for us as a band. We wanted to do something to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported us on this journey. We wrote this album almost 8 years ago and remember the magic we felt at the time. For various reasons beyond our control it didn’t get an official release, so it’s with great pride that ‘The Lost Tapes’ gets a fully independent release from us today.”
‘The Lost Tapes’ features contributions from MNEK, Biffco, Shaznay Lewis of All Saints, Cameron McVey, Ash Howes, Felix Howard, Iain James, Sia and Paul Sims.
Writing on the release on social media, MNEK adds: “I’d just turned 17 when @felixhoward messaged me “the original @sugababes are singing together again and I want you to write with them”. I wasn’t gonna say no was I?
“The first day we met, after eating some really salty greek food in Shoreditch, we wrote & produced what would become ‘Today’. I thought it shoulda been the first single but whatever it was, I was just so excited to be working with them. I ended up also making ‘Drum’, and working on ‘Boys’ with @biffco (who I adore!).
“The plan was for this come out a year later, I’d assumed! Labels labelled as they do, we love everybody, but they do! 10 years later (!) – it’s now here on DSPs as part of ‘The Lost Tapes’. I listen to these songs now and hear how unjaded I was. I also hear myself, Keisha, Mutya and Siobhan’s ideas in a new light and am taken back to a really exciting & pure time. But god I’m getting old, yo.”
