Tom A. Smith has dropped ‘SFX’, a new single about body image and feeling better in yourself
The Sunderland native is confirmed for BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend hometown performance.

Northeast artist Tom A. Smith has put out a new single called 'SFX' via Fiction Records. Arriving off the back of his recent SXSW appearance in Austin, Texas, the track tackles themes of self-doubt and body image.
Speaking about the track, Tom said: "I wanted this song to have a confidence that I ordinarily lack when it comes to body image. I know I'm definitely not alone when finding it hard to ignore your own insecurities. SFX is three minutes where I can dance and feel a bit better about myself, so hopefully anyone listening can do the same."
The release comes as the 21-year-old gears up for a headline tour that kicks off this spring, with further dates supporting The Lottery Winners and a slot alongside The Maccabees at the Eden Sessions in Cornwall also on the horizon. He will also take to the stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend, which takes place in his home city of Sunderland.
Discussing the festival, Tom added: "I'm really excited for Radio 1's Big Weekend this year. Big Weekend is in Sunderland, so it's in my home city and I know how fantastic a Sunderland crowd is."
'SFX' follows his EP 'Say What You Want', which was also released through Fiction Records.
