Dev Hynes, performing as
Blood Orange, appeared as a guest during
Turnstile's
Coachella set, joining the band for '
SEEIN' STARS' with his cello.
Across the wider performance, Turnstile split their setlist between material from '
NEVER ENOUGH' and earlier record '
GLOW ON', delivering tracks such as '
HOLIDAY', '
BLACKOUT', '
BIRDS', and more.
The show opened with an intro video featuring the father of vocalist Brendan Yates. The elder Yates has been at the centre of ongoing legal proceedings involving former Turnstile drummer Brady Ebert, who faces attempted murder charges after allegedly running him over with a car. Turnstile did not directly reference the matter during their performance.
In a previously released statement, the band addressed the situation: "Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community. After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible, and he began threatening violence." They described the "severe physical trauma" sustained by Yates' father and added: "We have no language left for Brady. Please respect our privacy in this time."
Beyond Coachella, Turnstile have a string of festival appearances lined up. They are scheduled to play Osheaga in Montreal, Outside Lands, and Shaky Knees later this year. Separately, the band recently recorded a rendition of The Stone Roses' 'I Wanna Be Adored' for triple j's long-running Like A Version series.
