We might be getting Wallows‘ second album this year, COVID depending

  • Stephen Ackroyd
  • February 17, 2021

Back on Monday, we brought you news of Wallows‘ brand new track ‘Quarterback’. A taster of a re-worked version of their ‘Remote EP’, set for release with 3 extra new tracks this Friday (19th February), it’s not the only news coming from their camp, though.

While launching the track, the band also chatted to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, revealing that there’s a new album in the works too.

“We actually are in the middle of recording our second album right now,” Dylan Minnette revealed. “So that’s the biggest update.

“right at the beginning of the year, we kind of just last minute, went in and started recording our next record, which we are just so excited about. And I think the ideal plan is that we have it finished in summer, and if it makes sense to put it out, we get it done in time to have it out this year in the fall.

“That would be ideal. I guess it just all depends on what the landscape of COVID and touring is, because we definitely want to, since we’re, I guess, hopefully nearing the time of touring coming back, we want to tour it. We want to do that. So it’s just got to be the right time.”

TL;DR – they’re recording a new album, when it comes out is COVID dependant, but hopefully this year. That’s exciting, isn’t it?

That’s not all they talked about either. As signed up members of the Cole Preston fanclub, new track ‘Quarterback’ is somewhat of a delight, with our man taking vocal duties.

“Cole started this idea of a long time ago,” Dylan revealed, “and probably say years ago, honestly, we’ve always really liked it, but so then last year when we were doing Remote, which I think we talked to you about before, that got brought back up into question, and we were sort of trying to self-produce that one, where the other ones were working on them with other people. And we decided like, “Ah, it doesn’t fit enough with the rest of the songs.” And so by the time Remote came out, we were just like, “Well, I feel like these other songs we started, including Quarterback aren’t necessarily going to work on the next thing we’re making, the next album. And also, what’s the point of holding things over?” We used to be like, “We’ll just wait to put it out.” It’s like, nah, you got it now and it’s good, just get out of the way and put it out.

Yeah, so we tried to finish it with the same guys, Saatchi and John and Caleb, that we did the last, the rest of the Remote EP with, and we’re super excited about it. And now we’ve got these three songs, and actually “Quarterback” was just going to come out at the same time as the other ones, but then between this it’s coming out as a single first, which we’re really excited about it.”

So there we go. Isn’t that lovely? You can listen to ‘Quarterback’ below, and hear it in heavy rotation on Dork Radio’s A-list 24/7/365.

Hello, ‘Dear Reader’

We’d like to ask you for a small favour. We have never been read by more people (hurrah! – Ed), and yet, thanks to the way the ad-funded media market operates, we earn little (booo! – Ed). This publication costs time, money and work – and with proper foundations, we can continue to invest to make it bigger and better than ever before. If you’re able, we’d love it if you’d consider becoming a supporter today. It’ll only take a minute, and you’ll get loads of extra bits and pieces in return. If you’re unable – don’t worry; most pieces are available to read totally free of charge, and many more supporter only articles will unlock after a period of time. Thank you very much!
