Westside Cowboy have announced their debut album ‘It Goes On’, due for release on 21st August via Island Records, alongside new single ‘Kick Stones (The Boys)’.
Premiered on BBC 6 Music, ‘Kick Stones (The Boys)’ arrives with a video made in collaboration with FC United of Manchester, the supporter-owned football club formed following Manchester United’s takeover in 2005.
Speaking about the track, bassist and vocalist Aoife Anson O’Connell said the band originally worried people would think they were “trying to be a stadium rock band” before reworking the song using a live version of The Velvet Underground’s ‘What Goes On’ as a key reference point.
Produced by Loren Humphrey, ‘It Goes On’ was recorded at Greenmount Studios in Leeds and follows the Manchester quartet’s two breakout EPs, ‘This Better Be Something Great’ and ‘So Much Country ‘Till We Get There’.
Alongside the album announcement, the band have also confirmed their biggest headline tour to date, including shows at London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town and Manchester’s Albert Hall. They’ll also appear at festivals this summer including Green Man, Latitude, Reading & Leeds and Øya.
Speaking about the album, the band said: “We wanted to make an album for our younger selves, one that reminds us of all the bodies of work that made us fall in love with music. We wanted the music to be instant, concise, and honest to us as people today.”
