Mike D has unveiled his second single of the month with 'What We Got'
The track follows 'Switch Up' as the former Beastie Boy plays sold-out Brooklyn dates at Xanadu Roller Arts
Fresh from breaking a lengthy silence earlier this month, Mike D has shared another new solo cut, 'What We Got', timed to land with a brace of intimate Brooklyn performances.
Hot on the heels of 'Switch Up', which appeared on 8th May and marked the first new music from a Beastie Boys member in 15 years, the latest offering was born out of the same run of experimental studio sessions. Joining the rapper on those dates were his sons, Davis and Skyler Diamond, who play in Very Nice Person, along with collaborators Jason Lader, Benjamin Pacheco, Kevin Rhomberg, Carter Lang and Tyran Donaldson.
Production duties on 'What We Got' were handled by Lang and Donaldson, with mixing taken care of by Derek 'MixedByAli' Ali at NoName Studios. Ali's CV includes credits with Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle and Childish Gambino.
To mark the new release, Mike D is playing two sold-out shows at Xanadu Roller Arts in Brooklyn.
Now 60, the rapper, whose real name is Michael Diamond, stepped away from touring as part of Beastie Boys following the passing of Adam 'MCA' Yauch in 2012. He and Adam 'Ad-Rock' Horovitz subsequently brought the trio to a close.
His public profile has lifted in recent weeks, however, with two California shows taking place earlier in May and surprise sets cropping up at Brothers Marshall Surf Shop in Malibu and The Ojai Valley Women's Club.
