Youth Lagoon has confirmed his new album ‘Rarely Do I Dream’ for February

Youth Lagoon announces new album inspired by childhood home videos, featuring lead single ‘Speed Freak’ and upcoming North American tour.

Artists: Youth Lagoon

Youth Lagoon has announced his new album ‘Rarely Do I Dream’, set for release via Fat Possum on 21st February, alongside new single ‘Speed Freak’.

The project of Idaho-based producer and songwriter Trevor Powers, ‘Rarely Do I Dream’ was inspired by the discovery of home videos in his parents’ basement. “When I took the tapes home and popped in the first one, it was my brother Bobby and I at the state fair. I was 4 years old choking on a corn dog,” Powers says. “If anything’s a summary of life, that is.”

Speaking about lead single ‘Speed Freak’, he reflects, “This song came from a thought I had of giving the angel of death a hug. We spend our whole lives running from this thing we can’t outrun. This body is temporary, but there is no death. Only transformation.”

The album was recorded with co-producer and mixer/engineer Rodaidh McDonald, following Youth Lagoon’s return from an eight-year hiatus with ‘Heaven Is a Junkyard’ in early 2023.
