Album Review
The Ninth Wave - Heavy Like A Headache
An eclectic mix of influences crafted into a record for a band that arguably deserved to soar so much higher.
Listening to a new album by a current band, knowing once it lands they’re going to take an elongated break, is a strange experience. There’s every chance the work you’re presented with might take on an air of an abandoned vehicle, burned out by its own engine, gathering rust in the rain.
To the credit of The Ninth Wave, ‘Heavy Like A Headache’ gives no such impression. Instead, from the brilliant ‘Heron on the Water’ to the glitching percussive groove of ‘These Depopulate Hours’, it’s an eclectic mix of influences crafted into a record for a band that arguably deserved to soar so much higher.
