About Beck
Beck David Hansen, born Bek David Campbell on July 8, 1970, is an American singer, songwriter, and record producer. He gained recognition in the early 1990s for his experimental and lo-fi style, creating musical collages that encompass a wide range of genres including folk, funk, soul, hip hop, electronica, alternative rock, country, and psychedelia. Hansen was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he developed an interest in hip hop and folk music during his teens and performed locally at coffeehouses and clubs. In 1989, he moved to New York City and became involved in the anti-folk movement. Returning to Los Angeles in the early 1990s, he achieved commercial success with his 1993 single 'Loser,' which peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100. The song served as the lead single for his third album and major label debut, Mellow Gold (1994). His subsequent album, Odelay (1996), received critical acclaim and won several awards. Throughout his career, Beck has released 15 studio albums, along with several non-album singles and a book of sheet music.
