About OutKast
OutKast was an American hip-hop duo formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1992, consisting of Big Boi (Antwan Patton) and André 3000 (André Benjamin). The duo gained recognition for their influence on hip-hop, achieving critical and commercial success from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s. They contributed to the popularization of Southern hip-hop through their intricate lyricism, memorable melodies, and positive themes, while incorporating elements from genres such as funk, psychedelia, jazz, and techno. Patton and Benjamin formed OutKast as high school students. Their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, was released in 1994 and featured the single "Player's Ball," which topped the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart. Their subsequent albums, ATLiens (1996) and Aquemini (1998), received critical acclaim and demonstrated their evolving sound. The duo achieved mainstream recognition with their fourth album, Stankonia (2000), which included the singles "B.O.B." and "Ms. Jackson"; the latter reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.
