About Tems
Tems, born Temilade Openiyi on June 11, 1995, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer. She gained recognition after being featured on Wizkid's 2020 single 'Essence,' which reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 chart following the remix with Justin Bieber. The song received a Grammy Award nomination. In 2020, she released her debut extended play, 'For Broken Ears,' and later signed with RCA Records to release her second EP, 'If Orange Was a Place,' in 2021. That year, her vocals from the song 'Higher' were sampled by Future on his single 'Wait for U,' which also featured Drake. The track debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making her the first African artist and the second Nigerian artist to achieve this. The song earned her the Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance.
A stripped-back ninety-minute set saw Bieber search YouTube for his earliest recordings live on stage.
