About The White Stripes
The White Stripes were an American rock duo formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1997. The group consisted of Jack White and Meg White. They were a leading group of the 2000s indie and garage rock revivals. Starting in the late 1990s, the White Stripes released six singles and two albums within the Detroit music scene. Their third album, White Blood Cells (2001), achieved critical and commercial success, bringing the band to prominence in the garage rock movement. Their fourth album, Elephant (2003), won the band's first Grammy Awards and included the single "Seven Nation Army," which became a sports anthem and the band's signature song. The band experimented on their fifth album, Get Behind Me Satan (2005), and returned to their blues roots with their sixth and final album, Icky Thump (2007), which received positive reviews. By the end of the 2000s, the White Stripes had charted multiple entries on the US Billboard Hot 100, US Alternative Airplay chart, and the UK singles chart.
The full list of nominees also includes Joy Division/New Order, OutKast, Soundgarden, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Idol, and more.
