About This Track
The fifth track from 2018's 'East Atlanta Love Letter', 'Sorry' arrives at the emotional centre of an album preoccupied with the complications of young love. 6lack adopts the voice of someone who struggles to apologise outright, searching for another way to acknowledge the hurt he's caused whilst admitting he's been swerving off course. The lyrics frame mistakes as fractures in the bone, something structural and painful to repair. He patches himself up whilst recognising the pattern, swinging for the fence but somehow unable to connect, wondering if he belongs at all. The admission 'without you I ain't shit' sits alongside the defensive qualifier 'but no pressure', the contradiction typical of someone caught between contrition and self-preservation. The track closes on a tentative promise to right the wrongs, asking whether he's already shown what it's like to love someone enough to treat their heart as his own.
