About This Track

'Stan' closes the album as a love song built on devotion. 6lack frames romantic commitment through the language of fandom, asking his partner to love him with the intensity of a diehard fan. The chorus turns the concept inside out: rather than obsessing over a distant celebrity, he wants to be loved like that himself, promising to walk the walk until the end. It's a darker inversion of the term's origins, stripping away the unhealthy fixation and replacing it with mutual, grounded affection. The track moves between declarations of permanence and acceptance of time's passage. 6lack sings of loving through age and memory loss, of finding both lover and friend in one person, of putting everything on the line. Beneath the devotion runs a quiet gratitude: that he found someone at all, that life without this love would be incomplete.
