No one told the birds the world is ending
So they keep singing like it's spring
I walk with Colin after dinner
We split a coke and watch the sunset do its thing

The church around the corner is having service on the lawn
And drawing pictures on the pavement in pastel sidewalk chalk
Of doves and palms and cartoon Jesus dying on the cross
I say he must be running late and we sorta laugh it off

I've been having that dream where I'm dying again

Start the truck, I named her Chelsea
I'm up and out before the sun
A pack of smokes, gas station coffee
That tastes like shit and doesn't even wake me up

Some guy I knew from high school got me a job here with his dad
So now I install garage doors on the south shore while it lasts
And my skin looks like a minefield, the mosquitos got me bad
But I'm happy for the work, that's where I saw Sam

"I thought that you got out of here in high school
I can't believe that you came back
You said, "We should get a drink soon, I'll catch you up on all of that"
I said, "I get paid on Fridays, meet me down at Jack's"
