About This Track
Adrianne Lenker's 'two reverse' moves through a landscape of colour and constraint. The song opens with a posture of surrender, laying down to let someone leave, then spirals through questions of need and complicity. Lenker's voice carries the weight of contradiction: she wants to see someone's eyes whilst asking them to lie, wants to feed them whilst crying. The repetition of "light blue, dark blue, grey" and "crimson trail" builds a visual vocabulary that feels both intimate and distant. The song's architecture is one of circularity and return. References to grandmother, juniper, and deep wood suggest a rooted, almost folkloric sensibility, whilst the repeated phrase "two reverse" anchors the whole thing. There's a flatness to the closing image, "flat as a knife, cold and white", that cuts through the colour and emotion preceding it. What emerges is a portrait of someone caught between asking and answering, between the crime of needing and the crime of being asked.

About the Artist
Lyrics
Lay me down so to let you leave Tell me lies, I wanna see your eyes Is it a crime to say I still need you? Crying, wanna feed you Light blue, dark blue, grey Crimsom trail Straight through state on straight Grandmother, Juniper Tell to me your recipe Is it a cry I hear from the deep wood? Cry, reappear from the weeds Light blue, dark blue, grey Crimsom trail Straight through state on straight Through the jail, see the sun Flat as a knife, cold and white To my home, two reverse Through my home, two reverse Is it a crime to do what you ask me to? Crying, mm
