About This Track

'Remains' by Algiers is a 2015 track from the album 'Algiers'. The lyrics sketch a bleak captivity, with a chained man singing a yearning for home, and a woman mourning the loss of her child while deciding to carry on. Captors boast about lowering costs, the rich gamble at the foot of the cross, and the chorus turns to collective resolve, with the vocal mood centred on endurance rather than escape. One line cuts cleanly through it all: “I feel like going home”.

"Remains" is a track by Algiers, from the album Algiers, released 2nd June 2015. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 3 articles about Algiers.

Lyrics

Remains

[Verse 1]

And the chained man

Sang in a sigh

"I feel like going home"

And the dokhtar fell

Holding the shell of her child

And said, "I feel like going on"

While the captors boast

On how they lower your costs

The rich men gamble

At the foot of the cross

[Refrain]

We're your careless mistakes

We're the spirits you raised

We are what remains...

[Verse 2]

And one by one

They made the ants march down

Down into the killing fields

And I know more than one place

Where you might never come back

If you show how you really feel

But there's a brand new show

For you to watch today

So all the Western eyes

Can look the other way

[Refrain]

We're your careless mistakes

We're the spirits you raised

We are what remains...
