Released as the title track and first single from Arcade Fire's fourth studio album, 'Reflektor' arrived on 9th September 2013 with a guest vocal appearance from David Bowie and production from LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy alongside Markus Dravs and the band. The seven-and-a-half-minute track draws on Haitian rara music and the existential questions of Søren Kierkegaard's essay 'Two Ages', framing modern connection as a hall of mirrors where signals deflect and intimacy fractures. Win Butler and Régine Chassagne trade verses about love mediated by screens and distance, the lyrics moving between English and French as they ask whether heaven itself might feel hollow without genuine presence. The chorus refrain turns the title into a mantra of disillusionment: the way forward is only ever a reflection, the connector only ever glass. The band's guerrilla marketing campaign, inspired by veve drawings and the 1959 film 'Black Orpheus', preceded the release with cryptic symbols and the alias The Reflektors on early vinyl pressings.
"Reflektor" is a single by Arcade Fire, from the album Reflektor, released 24th October 2013. The track is 7:34 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Arcade Fire.
