About This Track
Arcade Fire train their gaze on the modern young in 'Rococo', a track that oscillates between fascination and contempt. The song watches kids downtown, parroting grand words they don't grasp, moving in uniform despite their apparent wildness. There's a sharpness to the observation: they're tame beneath the surface, hungry to own you without understanding the rules of their own game. The band repeats the word "rococo" like a mantra, a label applied to something hollow and decorative. They build things up only to burn them down, leaving ashes scattered by the wind. It's a portrait of youth culture as spectacle, performed and empty, caught between aspiration and meaninglessness.
"Rococo" is a track by Arcade Fire, from the album The Suburbs, released 2nd July 2010. The track is 3:57 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Arcade Fire.
